Telstar’s New Flexo-Screen DUO™ System Has Benefits for Existing Customers and New Customers Alike

Rotary screen printing; just one of those “extras” many label printers would love to have. Now it makes even more sense to add Telstar’s equipment to your existing presses. The new Flexo-Screen DUO is a quick switch-out system that utilizes the same base frame for both screen or UV-flexo printing. According to Dan Plash, Telstar’s Sales Manager, “The versatility of this addition to our retrofit line makes it a must-have for label printers seeking new ways to increase sales and profits. All prime label printers need at least one rotary screen unit. I feel safe in saying the majority of prime label printers without rotary screen have turned down or been turned away from one of the larger and still growing segments of our industry.”

Companies already running Telstar rotary screen retrofits can order the flexo interchange, instantly providing an additional UV flexo station to their press when the screen unit is not in use. The single-servo base frame allows switching to either flexo or screen as jobs require. By removing the screen cassette and replacing it with the new flexo cassette, a six-color press becomes a seven color press instantly. Independent servo drive allows for maximum sequencing options and no flexo stations are ever sacrificed for the added capability.
Customers new to Telstar’s custom manufacturing will likely want to start off with the new screen and flexo combination. Plash pointed out the fact that, like most Telstar retrofits, the new Flexo-Screen DUO can be mounted on just about any press, in any sequence. IR or UV curing can be mounted directly to the top or side of the screen unit. Telstar’s CAD-TO-GO™ onsite engineering ensures initial installation takes fewer than four hours, so there is little down-time ever.

Plash believes the decision to add rotary screen is made much easier by the Flexo-Screen DUO retrofit. Rotary screen has always been the number one requested and converted retrofit at Telstar. He suggested printers ask themselves some basic questions: How many times have you wanted just one more flexo station? How many jobs have you turned away because you don’t have rotary screen? How many more could you get with this new offering in your shop? Now printers can have it all, when they want it and where they want it, along with the flexibility to move the retrofit unit to different presses in the shop.

Telstar has been busy helping develop new screen materials that last longer and at the same time our customers still have access to the least expensive rotary screen material available. We make the only screen unit capable of running every type of rotary screen material on the market. If short run costs or long run durability are concerns, printers now have a wide range of materials and vendors from which to choose. Telstar sells equipment, not screen material, and continues to look for cost effective ways of optimizing production for its customers. “Together we have found the right solutions,” Plash stated.

Telstar Engineering also manufactures complete converting presses for the label and pharmaceutical industries along with over 47 retrofit printing units designed to interface with a variety of manufacturer’s equipment as well as custom applications. Retrofits by Telstar are designed to be fully and easily portable, station-to-station and press-to-press. The company’s CAD-TO-GO™ on-location engineering design service applies to both its narrow and wide web printing applications.
